◼️早朝、新宿駅前の（旧）しょんべん横丁を間近で見渡すところにいた。歩いているのは９割方が外人さん。ガイドブックやトランクケースを持ちみなさん日本観光中だ。なんだか異世界なのである。その昔、世界中を観光して歩く日本人を見て「遊びに来てまで勤勉」なんて笑われたものだが、道ゆく欧米の方も、その角を曲がったアジアの方も、なかなかどうして勤勉なトラベラーなのだな〜。なんておもう きょうの眺め .
帰り際にしょんべん横丁を横切ったが、朝から満席で焼き鳥焼いている飲み屋さんってのも「おー」と思わせる風情なのであった。

◾️Early in the morning, I was at a place where I could see the (former) Shomben Yokocho in front of Shinjuku Station up close. 90% of the people walking are foreigners. Everyone is sightseeing in Japan with guidebooks and trunk cases. It’s a different world somehow.
A long time ago, people around the world used to laugh at Japanese people walking around the world, saying that they were diligent even to come here to play. However, foreigners who travel in Japan now are also quite diligent. Such is my view today.
On my way home, I crossed Shomben Alley, and it was an atmosphere that made me think, “Oh!” A banquet of yakitori and sake from the morning. i envy you guys.
